Miss Alexandra- Site Director

Hi everyone!  I’m Alexandra, and I am so excited to be starting a new adventure at the Wildflower Preschool!  I recently moved from central New York to Boulder in pursuit of the mountains and healthy life style Boulder has to offer.  Outside of school, I’m reading, running, hiking, doing yoga, or exploring the area on my bike.  I received a Bachelor’s Degree in 2013 in Animal Behavior from Bucknell University, where I realized my love for teaching through a couple of education courses.  I went on to work in a preschool in New York for two years while earning a Master’s Degree in Inclusive Childhood Education, including two Early Childhood Education courses.  I have experience working with all ages and abilities birth through 5th grade, but my true passion is working with preschoolers in structured and guided play with developmentally appropriate learning practices.  I’m thrilled to bring my knowledge into the classroom and help guide the Wildflower children to grow as the intuitive and curious learners they are!

Miss Sam- Assistant Site Director & Curriculum Specialist

Sam began cultivating a love of teaching young learners in 2011 when she started working as a nanny. That love turned into a passion, and that passion turned into a profession.  She is excited to begin her teaching career at Wildflower as a Pre-K teacher!  Sam is a Colorado native and lives in Boulder with her husband, Justin, and cat, Winnie Cooper.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from CU Boulder and completed her Post-Baccalaureate teaching licensure at MSU Denver.  She is currently working on a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction at CU Denver.  She spent the past year as a student teacher resident in a Kindergarten classroom in Denver.  When she’s not in the classroom, Sam enjoys reading anything she can get her hands on, dancing to anything with a beat, and snuggling anything with fur.

Miss Cathy- Preschool Teacher

Miss Denise-  Preschool Teacher

My name is Denise Coleman. I was born and raised on a farm in eastern Iowa. I lived in Rochester, Minnesota for 20 years and moved to Longmont in June 2015 with my husband and teenage son.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and history from the University of Dubuque. I was a graphic designer for many years until my son was born.   I started working with children after my son started first grade. I was a preschool teacher in Rochester for eight years and worked with 2-5 year olds. Since moving to Longmont, I worked at the Aspen Center for Child Development as an infant teacher. I am lead teacher qualified in the state of Colorado. I have taken Pyramid Plus Approach and Expanding Quality Infant and Toddler Care classes. I am looking forward to working with preschoolers again. I love reading books, playing and being outside with kids.

Miss Dawn-  Preschool Teacher

I have had the privledge of working with young people since 1986.  I began my  experience as an art specialist in public education, teaching in Texas, Alaska, and Virginia.  I left public education in 2005 after research for my thesis validated my concerns regarding the lack of support for social, emotional challenges in most public-school settings.  Shortly thereafter, I began working in non-traditional education teaching in Boulder at both The Living School  and Boulder Valley Community Open School.  In the non-traditional environment my students showed me the importance of providing a space for social emotional support.  I then began to nanny for a variety of families in and around Boulder.  It was during these years that I realized how much I enjoyed the preschool age.  I am interested in supporting the social and emotional development of preschool aged young people through play, role modeling, and conversation.  I have varied interests; in my spare time I enjoy making ceramic wall pieces.  I love physical activity along with self-care, hiking, soccer, pilates, and MELT Method.  I am also deeply interested in health through nutrition.

Miss Kira- Preschool Teacher

Hi, I’m Kira Fling.  I moved to Boulder in 2006 after retiring from my career in short track speedskating.  I attended CU for my undergrad and received my Master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Colorado Denver.  In 2007, I began teaching skiing and fell in love with teaching.  This helped me decide to pursue a career in education. I began teaching in 2010 and have taught kindergarten, preschool, and toddlers.  I also hold a teaching license in physical education and have created and implemented a preschool PE and health curriculum.

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy skiing, biking, hiking with my dog, and of course, ice skating. I love the outdoors and traveling, so you will rarely find me at home. I am excited to bring my skills to Wildflower!
